Established in 2018 in a small, slightly obscurely placed unit outside the Meridian Shopping Centre, the Foundation shop was an immediate success. Building on this, the Trustees, along with the Foundation team, made the decision to move into a much larger unit within the centre to help increase footfall and sales and therefore the amount of donations we can give. This relocation in late 2021 also enabled us to expand our volunteer and work experience programmes. Our ability to provide this service to the local community is one of our proudest achievements, with over 70 people joining us over the last 6 years. Whether in need of work experience, a boost in confidence or simply a friendly workplace to provide a certain skillset to the charity for 4 hours a week, our programmes are there to galvanise the community whilst helping the Foundation shop, and thus the Foundation, to succeed.
The people I work with are all amazing. The team freely give time to make sure I can fulfil my role efficiently. I feel valued and know that I am making a valuable contribution. Volunteering at the FatFace Foundation gives me the opportunity to use skills I can transfer from my working life and also to learn new ones. I have the chance to do this and make new friends.
Volunteering at the Foundation has created a purpose in my life which I love. My favourite thing about working at the Foundation shop is: the people I work with, our lovely customers and making a difference to the community with the money donated! Volunteering makes me smile every week and laugh with my colleagues and I love serving the public.
I love doing something to give back and make a difference. It’s a real privilege to be a Foundation Trustee and I love doing this alongside my day job. It means so much after 21 years in the (FatFace) business to be able to help so many amazing projects and charities. I love being part of the team who makes these decisions and gets to make a difference to people’s lives.
